The project scope includes pavement rehabilitation of the NC and NP taxiways in the north apron area, as well as the pavement rehabilitation at the intersections of NC/NP/EC taxiways. In the south apron area, the project covers pavement rehabilitation of the S and Q taxiways. Additional works include drainage system upgrades in the rehabilitated areas, service road reconstruction, and fire protection pipeline works.
Taoyuan International Airport, Taiwan’s most important international gateway, has been in operation since 1979 and has served for 38 years. The runways and taxiways have long exceeded their designed service life, resulting in insufficient pavement strength. The primary works of this project involve rehabilitation of the NP and NC taxiways adjacent to the north apron, the intersection of NP, NC, and EC taxiways, and the Q and S taxiways adjacent to the south apron.
In addition, the reconstruction of the drainage system beneath the airport pavements is a key focus. During the taxiway pavement rehabilitation, outdated drainage facilities are removed and replaced with new drainage systems, addressing long-standing issues of subgrade flooding that weakened pavement strength and caused surface damage. This measure also reduces future maintenance workloads.
Since the closure of taxiways directly impacts normal airport operations, the most critical task of this project was to overcome all challenges and minimize disruptions to aircraft usage while completing the works, thereby ensuring the continued smooth operation of the airport.
